What is a ceramic coating?

It is the question we are asked most often here at Mobile Car Spa. A ceramic coating is a chemical polymer solution that is applied to the exterior of a vehicle to protect it from external contamination and oxidation, and even from the light swirl mark damage caused by poor washing techniques.

Unlike a traditional wax, which just sits on top of your vehicle's paintwork, a ceramic coating is applied by hand and blends with your vehicle's paint to create an additional layer of protection.

Prior to application your vehicle undergoes an exhaustive decontamination process and polish, for superior results you will be excited to show off.

Crystal Serum Light forms a durable, high gloss, slick to the touch, chemically bonding inorganic layer of 9h optically clear ceramic, which offers fantastic resistance to wash swirls occurring. Gloss levels will remain in the upper 90th percentile for significantly longer compared to traditional paint sealants, and cleaning your vehicle will be easier.

The coating resists chemicals ranging from pH2 to pH12, and bonded contaminants such as tree sap, tar and water spots are much easier to remove. Unlike mainstream waxes and organic polymer coatings, it holds up at temperatures as low as -40° and as high as 250°c.

Both include the full preparation listed below and are priced on the size of your vehicle. The difference is how far we take the paint correction before the coating goes on.

Ceramic coating

Approximately 6 hours

Full decontamination, clay bar and a hand polish before Crystal Serum Light is applied. Ideal where your paintwork is already in good condition.

Best results

Ceramic coating with machine polish

From£500

Approximately 9 hours

Adds a full machine polish to cut out deeper swirls, scratches and heavier oxidation, so the coating seals in corrected paintwork rather than locking the marks underneath.

Exterior treatments

Wash and decontamination

  • Vehicle snow foamed and left for 5 minutes to loosen dirt

Here you can see the typical classes of vehicle Mobile Car Spa class as Small – Medium – Large – or bigger.

  • Small - Typically two to five seater cars with a small body e.g. Mazda MX-5, Vauxhall Corsa, Audi A1, Toyota Yarris.
  • Medium - Typically four or five seater cars with a medium body e.g. Audi A3, Ford Focus, BMW 3 Series, Nissan Juke.
  • Large - Typically five or seven seater cars with a large body e.g. Range Rover, BMW 5 Series, Toyota Landcruiser, Estate Cars.
  • Anything Bigger - Vans, Buses, Lorry's, Horse Transporters, Caravans, Motor-homes Boats and Aircraft. Prices available on enquiry.
